Apple Sauce Cake

This cake is so good. The little divots that melt down are the best part of the cake. The recipe came from Daphne's Dandelions.

Apple Sauce Cake

Topping Ingredients:

1/4 cup brown sugar
1 Tbsp. flour
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 Tbsp. butter

Cake Ingredients:

1/2 cup unbleached flour
1/2 cup whole wheat flour( just used 1 cup unbleached flour)
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 cup applesauce
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
1/4 cup melted butter
1/2-3/4 cup grated apple

Preheat oven to 375ยบ.
Prepare topping in small bowl. Set aside.
In a medium bowl mix all the dry things together.
In another medium bowl combine all the wet things together.
Add flour mixture to wet and blend until just combined.
Pour batter into an 8x8 pan.
Sprinkle topping over batter.
Bake for 40 minutes or until tester comes out clean.

I've had similar recipes to this, and I love how moist the applesauce keeps the cake. Looks delicious!

I need to have a slice with my coffee tomorrow morning. I bet it smelled delicious while baking, not to mention how it would taste!

Hello from Uplyme, Devon, England.
I already have a wonderful recipe for "Paradise Cake" from an old Canadian cookery book which encouraged me to look up further Canadian recipes.
I found your Apple Sauce Cake recipe and couldn't wait to try it. I've not seen an apple sauce cake before. Absolutely delicious, totally scrumptious. My family and friends loved it. I am making another one tomorrow on request. It's such a straight forward method and so more-ish. Thank you, Elizabeth
