Butter Tart Squares


Butter Tart Squares

1/2 cup butter
1 cup flour
1/3 cup sugar

Blend together and spread evenly into an un-greased 8"X8" square baking pan. Bake at 350F oven for 15 minutes. Remove from Oven and cool slightly.

Filling:

2 eggs
1 cup brown sugar
2 tbsp. flour
1/2 tbsp. baking powder
1/2 vanilla
pinch salt
1 1/2 cups raisins

Beat eggs, add the rest of the ingredients. Mix Well. Spread the filling mixture over the base and bake at 350F for 25 minutes. Do Not cut until the squares have cooled. Cut into squares or bars.

  2. Hey, this is a great twist on an old favourite. My hubby loves butter tarts, but I find them a pain to make. This is an excellent alternative!

    knatolee....they are really easy to make..and taste great...you could even add a bit of maple syrup to them... :)

    adam.... yes you could do alot with this recipe..... you could add different things...caramel...nuts...maple syprup.. :)

  6. I tried and the topping boiled over the dish. I think 2 tbsp of baking powdwe is to much. Maybe a typo...2 tsp of baking powder ould seem right. top burnt as well because it was so high.

  7. conrad...yes it was a typo...I have changed it..sorry it did not turn out....if you try them again with the proper baking powder it will be much better... :)

  9. My hubby doesn't care for raisins, do you think you could use something else, like dates, or pineapple in the tarts?

  10. anonymous...not sure about the pineapple..but you could give it a try...You could use walnuts, pecans instead of the raisins...you could also cut up the raisins and add the nuts and he may not notice....:)
